Executive Director

Jo North

Jo commenced her focused and full time career pathway in Nursing in 1960, and progressed to Ward Sister / Departmental Sister roles before moving into Nurse Education in 1970. Jo then followed Clinical Teacher, Nurse Tutor, Senior Tutor, Director of Nurse Education and Assistant Principal roles, and progressed both her professional and degree attainments in a 24 years period. In 1994, Jo launched and directed her first owned company. During this period, entrepreneurial opportunities flourished and Jo's passion for the health and the education/ training sectors were widened. Jo's roles at this time also included, Chair of an FE College, external Moderator for the Certification in Education Programme, Training Standard Council and Adult Learning Inspector roles, National Health, Social and Child Care Champion, Chair of the Education and Training Trailblazer Leadership Group and many other related roles and Directorships in the public, private and voluntary sectors.


Jo brings to ITC Skills, a wealth of unique practical experience gained across the NHS in South Yorkshire, a whole range of 'fit for purpose' qualifications, sector credibility in teaching and practice, leadership and management knowledge and experience, strategic vision, entrepreneurial skills and many personal and earned company accolades and a whole bundle of energy, commitment and determination.


Jo is totally committed to maximising the ownership for individual and organisational potential, high quality cost effective delivery, embedding technologies and knowing that passion and hard work makes the unthought-of, become an achievable reality.

Leadership Team

Ian Grayling

Over the last 35 years, Ian has taught (and trained practitioners) in every part of the Lifelong Learning Sector.  A psychologist by background, he has been at the front-end of national movements including the development of competence-based education and training in the 1980s and 1990s, through to leading national improvement projects in teaching and learning over the last 10 years as the Director of the East Midlands Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training - now known as The CETTAcademy.  

He has also independent training consultant, a teacher trainer within higher education institutions and in a parallel career, worked and published as consultant in organisational psychology and quality and high performance. Notably he has undertaken these in the areas of Clinical Governance and Clinical Audit within the health service.  Ian currently is leading national programmes of: coaching; practitioner-led action research; leadership and governance; and assessment and tracking. The CETTAcademy is currently delivering the Education and Training Foundation’s programme to improve teaching and learning in maths and English across the wider education sector. 

 Throughout all of this, Ian’s principle interest and passion has remained the same; namely, ‘human potential’ and development of the cultures and learning environments in which this can thrive.


Steve Cross

Steve has for over 18 year’s significant experience within the Education, Skills and Welfare to Work sectors at a senior level. He has been fortunate to help shape Government strategy and was a national pioneer using e-learning to achieving many ‘firsts’, dispelling the prejudices initially associated with its use.  

He has previously developed recruitment and blended training solutions for ancillary staff at teaching hospitals and provided education to long term patients in care. His pragmatic approach to understanding employers’ needs have been recognised. 

Currently Steve is the Principal and Chief Executive of a not-for-profit community college and UK Online Centre. As a small, medium enterprise, he understands the business pressures and opportunities that policy changes can bring to employers ,develop strategies into operational delivery.   

His consultancy work provides quality and business development support to organisations that are faced with delivery challenges and funding difficulties. He is a passionate advocate of improving the life chances of others through the empowerment of learning.
